I want to know if OP uses this solution because it seems to me like this would merely cut the cat hair instead of pulling it off, making the cat hair shorter and harder to actually pull off the cactus. Wouldn't a hook be better? Or the toothbrush solution? But I could besides meet the seam ripper working, so I promise OP updates...or else I will have no choice but to create this scenario for myself to test out and I experience like my cat would be mad at me for rubbing her on a cactus.

This is something I've struggled with before! I recommend a clean plastic mascara wand/spoolie. I have also used dental spiral brushes. This will grab the pilus without damaged the cactus in any way.

I like these! What about one of those long brushes we utilise to clean reusable straws? Simply a longer mascara wand.

I'd run a skewer upward the "valley" and take hold of the hair off. Lint roller to grab would assistance.
